MING YA BUDDHIST FOUNDATION OF L.A.

Introduction to Ming Ya Buddhist Foundation of los Angeles,California,United States

Ming Ya Buddhist Foundation was founded in Saigon,    Vietnam, in 1947.It was able to branch to various provinces in Vietnam. When the South Vietnam regime fell from  power in 1975, many Buddhists, including fellow Buddhists of the Ming Ya Foundation fled the country. They overcame the difficulties of a dangerous ocean journey and settled in Europe and the United States. The Buddhists were touched by uncertainties in their native places and increasingly yearned towards the Power of Buddha as they were  separated from their family in troubled  times, suffered  untold hardships, and experienced sudden changes in the world. In mid-spring of 1982, founders Wei  Xiexiang, Zhang Weiwu, Hu Liangmu, Su Yiqing and Ke Jincheng took the  initiative to establish the Ming Ya Buddhist Foundation in Los Angeles for the purpose of extending the heritage of their homeland and benefiting people practicing Buddhism in the region.

After the establishment, Ming Ya Buddhist Foundation purchased properties and expanded the temple four times at  the former address. In subsequence years, pious  Buddhist laymen and laywomen swarmed to the temple for benefaction and self-cultivation, featuring prosperously  burning joss sticks and candles at the temple. In 1995, Wei Xiexiang, president of the 6th Board of Directors of the  Foundation, and other visionary Buddhists were struck with  the idea of  expanding  the temple to  accommodate  even more devout believers. They planned to move the base of  the Foundation and hence in three years, thanks  to arduous efforts of the  organizers and generous donations of fellow  Buddhists. A  ceremony  was held on May 23, 1998, to  celebrate  the completion of the new temple. In 2005,a Maitreya Buddha stone statue was erected, a new    ksitigarbha  Shrine was built, and the Ancestral Memorial Hall was expanded.

Buddhist doctrines, as vast as the open sea, are known for abstruse subtleties.Mahayana and Hinayana virtually stem from the same sources. Though taking shelter in the          material world, lay  Buddhists are piously admiring the Pure land. They meditate on Triratna, preach Buddhist creeds, and pray for blessings for all the people in the world. In this sense, they reach the same goal by different routes.

The Foundations  temple occupies a land of 120,000 square feet, with 40,000 square-foot buildings and a parking  lot  accommodating 180 cars.

The temple is constructed and decorated under the classical Chinese Buddhism structure, which comprises Maitreya  Buddha  Shrine,Veda Bodhisattva Shrine, Main Shrine, Shingon-shu Buddha Shrine, Bhaisaryaguru(Medicine) Buddha Shrine, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva(Guan Yin)Shrine, Ancestral Master Shrine, Amida Buddha Shrine, Ksitigarbha  Bodhisattva Shrine,Ancestral Memorial hall, and the Shrine for Releasing Souls from Purgatory. In  addition to Buddhist shrines, the temple furnishes a Tripitaka Pavilion, Office,Reception Room,Conference Room, Auditorium,Dining Hall,Tea Room,Rest Areas, and Zan Garden. The sacred temple has lanes extending in all directions, serving as an ideal place for fellow Buddhists to  practice Buddhism.

Tenets of Ming Ya Buddhist Foundation

Ming Ya Buddhist Foundation follows the leniency Buddhist doctrines to assist and love the people. As a nonprofit organization, the foundation summons Buddhist laymen and laywomen to fortify friendship,  exchange knowledge of Buddhist  works, revive the Buddhist culture,  promote common welfare, assist lineal relatives of the federation members to handle funeral services and expiate the sins of the dead, and draw upon all useful opinions.
